Leading the Way with Open Source

Open source and community-driven software development is becoming increasingly important to the wireless industry. As connected consumer products ranging from traditional handsets and sophisticated Smartphones to mobile computing devices grow in functionality, open software is helping spur the creativity and innovation that will allow these devices to provide more advanced services — and thus greater value than ever before. In recognition of this market dynamic, Qualcomm Incorporated formed the Qualcomm Innovation Center, Inc. (QuIC).

QuIC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm that brings together a dedicated group of engineers focused on this area of growing innovation. With the goal of investing greater resources into enabling and optimizing open source software with Qualcomm technology, QuIC works closely with the open source community to enable the faster advancement of the wireless industry as a whole.  Android™, Chromium™, Linux™, Webkit and MeeGo™ projects are QuIC’s top open source priorities.

QuIC also is a founding member of the Code Aurora Forum, a non-profit mutual benefit corporation for the development of open source software running on mobile devices such as smartphones and the new class of mid-level devices relying on internet and cellular data technology.  Code Aurora Forums’ website is targeted at world-wide developers working on mobile open source projects.  Developers can contribute to new projects by registering at the site, create new projects, participate in discussions and research open source software that is used on mobile phones today.  Today QuIC’s primary means of contributing to mobile open source developments will be via the Forum.
